Combining high conductivity with strength
This high strength conductor VERSA Connect combines the benefits of high conductivity with high strength, offering excellent properties for deep-drawing. It complements Speira's VERSA series which serve as state-of-art material for electrotechnical products like transformer windings. Furthermore, Speira's VERSA transfers the advantages of high-strength 6xxx alloys, as used in extruded products for electrics and electrotechnics, into flat-rolled aluminium. In a novel approach, VERSA is based on direct strip casting, thereby avoiding typical, elaborated process steps from ingot casting and homogenization over hot rolling to separate solutionizing heat treatment.

Individually designed to meet your requirements
With its long-term experience in direct strip-casting, Speira's rolling mill in Karmøy, Norway, is prepared to build up industrial volume production of VERSA Connect, in close collaboration with customers to meet their most specific demands. The concept already is customer tested. It enables energy efficient production of electrical conductors that outperform standard 6101B in the ratio between strength and conductivity. The VERSA process takes advantages of the quick cooling within twin-roll casting to generate an as-cast condition, which enables precipitation hardening in subsequent heat treatment. Following that, further cold rolling enables high strength in conjunction with improved conductivity.

CUSTOMER REQUIREMENTS FIRST
Tailor strength and conductivity
Adjustments of the individual processing steps and optional final annealing enable to tailor strength and conductivity in the range from 180 to 250MPa and 32.5 to 34MS/m respectively, depending on the customer's requirements and dimensions. In addition, the high strength conductor can be deep drawn to a similar extent as aluminum beverage can materials. Potential applications may include busbars, collector plates, connectors or cell cans.
